A deep, warm colour for a dining room to make guests feel welcome and relaxed…

Some say it is a brave choice, but it creates a rich background for the paintings and framed photographs.

All the walls in this room are painted in the same colour. Just go for it in a room which isn’t used as often as others. If this strong colour was used in a kitchen, you will be more likely to tire of it and it could be a bit too much for everyday…

It is so important to take natural lighting into account when choosing your paint shade. If there is plenty of light then a dark colour will not look too strong. So take into account whether the windows in the room are south  or north facing – it really makes a difference to the paint colour effect.

Paints

Here at The Curtain Co. we are passionate about paint!

For sample pots, orders or advice please email helen@thecurtainco.co.uk or telephone 07909 624 310

Paint orders can be delivered directly to your address the following day (generally) if ordered by 10am the previous day. We offer a great service!

You can start with drawing inspiration for your colour scheme from a rug, artwork or accessory in the room.

In this room, we started with the paintings, which were bought on different holidays. There was a recurrent colour theme going on between them, of teal, blue, green and orange, which made it easier to formulate a plan and choose the colour schemes for this lounge and dining room.

Another choice is to choose your fabrics for soft furnishings and paint/wallpaper at the same time.

It is so important not to just choose a random paint colour and then try to find the right fabric. It makes it much more difficult to find the perfect match!

Sanderson

Sanderson Paints Collection has a palette of 140 shades to compliment the fabrics and wallpapers in the Sanderson Collections.

It really makes the process of choosing colours for the room design easier and you can make a confident choice, knowing that Sanderson has done the homework for you! However, it is very important to test the walls by applying sample colours on the walls before making the final decision, as light plays an important part in reflecting the true colour. You can also check that the colour coordinates the fabric choices.

Sanderson Paints are available in all finishes – matt emulsion, active emulsion, water based eggshell, eggshell and gloss for interiors and exteriors.

All Sanderson paints are manufactured in the UK to the highest specifications with a keen commitment to minimising environmental impact.

 The Little Greene

The Little Greene has four paint collections, namely, Colours of England, Colour Scales, Grey and Blue.

Colours of England collection reflects the popular colours used in decorating through the different periods of history. Colours from the Georgian, Regency, Victorian and Twentieth Century which can be chosen to fit the age of your property in order to give authenticity. There are 128 colours in this range to choose from.

Colour Scales collection comprises of 48 neutral tones. There are twelve groups of four shades beginning with the lightest to the darker. They work beautifully together to create a sophisticated and elegant look.

The Grey collection is highly popular and offers 28 shades of grey. Again, they are grouped in seven shades beginning with the lightest to the darkest. Each group is based on one of these four colours, turquoise, green, yellow and pink.

The latest Blue collection of 21 paint shades from The Little Greene. Just beautiful shades which  reflect the blue colours we see in the world around us, from the sky and sea, flora and fauna.

Again, these paints are available in many different finishes, walls, ceilings and woodwork, to floors, brickwork, exteriors and metals (radiators) paying great attention and respect to the environment.

The Little Greene work collaboratively with English Heritage and a contribution is made from every sale of paint and wallpaper to English Heritage.

My decorators Steve and Paul favour both Sanderson and the Little Greene for the high quality of paint, superb coverage, choice and depth of colours and, in particular, the accuracy of the colour cards. They say it makes a big difference to the overall effect by spending a little more.

Both Sanderson and Little Green paints can be ordered from The Curtain Co and normally delivered to your door the next day (if ordered before 10.30am)
